公司创建于1955年，是国家公路工程、市政公用工程一级施工总承包国有大型企业，主营公路、隧道、桥梁、市政工程施工，兼营铁路、水工、基础工程等施工作业。具有建设部核准的公路工程施工总承包、市政公用工程施工总承包双一级资质以及隧道工程、桥梁工程、公路路基、公路路面专业承包一级、钢结构专业承包三级资质，是国家商务部批准的承包境外公路工程及境内国际招标工程的实体型企业。2005年通过质量环境职业健康安全一体化管理体系认证。
    公司历史悠久，经验丰富，有较强的资产实力和人才优势，以及现代水平较高的技术装备和科研实验手段。公司创立以来承建了国内外大批颇具影响的大型工程项目，公司实力不断壮大，目前拥有职工4000多人，中高级职称各类专业技术人员500多人；公司设有7个分公司，1个机械修配厂、1个物资设备经营中心、1个经国家技术监督局认证的建材中心实验室；公司拥有总资产五亿多元，净资产二亿多元；年完成施工产值15-25亿元，生产经营规模不断扩大，经济效益稳步提升，多年来社会经济效益名列同行业前茅。
